NIBIB/NIH BEITA REMB3 Center
The main objective of this project is to establish an interdisciplinary Center for Research and Education in Multiscale Bioengineering, Bioimaging, and Biosensing (REMB3 Center) at Delaware State University (DSU). The Center’s vision is to become a sustainable centralized hub that fosters a nurturing environment for collaborative research and technological innovation in bioimaging and biosensing and for excellence in education in training the next generation of bioengineers and biomedical engineers.
REMB3 GOALS
Supported by a grant from the NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF BIOMEDICAL IMAGING AND BIOENGINEERING (Award: FAIN# UG3EB036465) the Center’s focus will be:
- to inspire and engage undergraduate and graduate students to pursue careers in bioengineering and biomedical engineering while fostering their success. The Center will facilitate and provide support for the creation of a comprehensive integrated curricular program at the interface between life science, engineering, and data science, combined with training in modern medical technologies. Further, the Center will seek the establishment of articulation agreements with the University of Delaware and Rowan University to open pipelines to DSU students to enroll in BS+MS degrees in biomedical engineering. A summer internship program will also be organized.
- to grow DSU’s research portfolio to include cutting-edge research in bioimaging and biosensing and to accelerate technology development and implementation in medical diagnosis and treatments for improving human health. The Center will support DSU investigators to pursue interdisciplinary team-based research projects and will enhance DSU research capacity and resources such as optical science and sensing technologies, neuroscience, data science and machine learning, and biomaterials.
- to develop a hub for promoting bio-entrepreneurship and networking with biomedical professionals. The center will build a network of collaborators and partner institutions to broaden its impact and visibility as a premier go-to hub for bioimaging and biosensing technology as well as bioengineering/biomedical engineering training.
