Delaware Master Gardeners

DE MG GreenhouseWhat is a Master Gardener?

If you are a serious gardener in Delaware, you have probably called upon a Master Gardener to help you with planting, harvesting or beautifying the food or ornamentals growing in your yard. Delaware State University Cooperative Extension helps train volunteers who can teach residents how to properly care for and manage their landscapes, and to identify plant material. Master Gardeners serve as a ready resource to help Delawareans identify assorted plant specimens and to determine best natural resource practices for their home grounds.

The Master Gardener training program is intensive and comprehensive, and lasts 16 weeks. The course is designed to prepare Master Gardener candidates for their volunteer obligation. Upon completion of the training program, Master Gardeners are expected to volunteer 45 hours of their time to Cooperative Extension. Volunteer time is spent solving problems, and educating and advising the gardening public of Delaware.
